Summer watering and weeding

June 22, 2011

We hope we can keep all those who are interested involved in the garden over the summer. The plan is to have a scheduled work event one day a week throughout the summer weeks. Maybe Sunday night, 7pm? Post your comments below if that time does not work for you. We have the help of Jean Snow and her team through the month of July along with a volunteer assigned to the garden by the Ecology Action Centre through their school garden matchmaker program. We will need help with weeding, watering and thinning/eating of the lettuce! Post below if you have any other comments or suggestions. We are still working on a rain barrel solution, a parent at the school has volunteered to make a platform. Get in touch if you have any other ideas or comments. Here’s to the first day of summer!

I think it would be helpful to have a session with Jean before school gets out to talk about “how to care for a garden, thinning, weeding, etc. If we did it at lunch, some parents could attend with their children and it would probably result in more kids wanting their parents to be involved

    • Good idea! I’ll contact Jean and see what we can set up before the end of the month. Jean was at the school last week working with Ms. Pelly’s class, helping the class decide what was weeds what was produce, so a quick session with families would be great. We can also talk about the water situation at the same time. I’ll post some times here.

You’d asked for feedback on a work night. I suspect your suggested time will
work for most but I’m away weekends so it’s tricky for me. I’m happy to commit to watering the gardens during a designated week if that’s helpful.
